Dinner Party Planning Tips

Once you have selected the date to invite all of your close friends and family to your home for a dinner party, it’s time to start all of the tedious planning.

With so many preparations to make, party catering on the Outer Banks is a great way to eliminate the most time consuming task: creating a fabulous menu and then cooking it all. Now, you are free to get creative, relax, and have fun planning an unforgettable dinner party.

Expert Party Planning Tips:

  • Whether your party is large or small, it’s always polite to indicate to guests what type of attire they are expected to wear on their invitation. Party expert, Carley Roney, explains that you may state “black tie optional” or “black tie invited” to cue both men and women in on what to wear. You may indicate that you are having a casual dinner party on the Outer Banks in the same manner.
  • Centerpiece Options: You may choose floral centerpieces, candles, or you can even place an edible arrangement on the table. Either way, remember to keep the centerpieces elegant but simple, so they do not interfere with conversation or take up too much space needed for entrees and drinks.
  • Casual or Formal? Our flexible Personal Outer Banks Chefs allow you the option to offer a formal, staff-served meal, or a casual self-serve meal. The choice is yours, but it’s usually better to have catering staff serve guests at an indoor dinner party, particularly if space is an issue. Larger indoor areas or outside areas are great for buffet-style dinners.

Party Catering With A Sense Of Humor:

For those of you that are still kids at heart or simply love to laugh, try these games out at your catered event. Before dinner, write a silly phrase or question on a piece of paper, and then place it under each guest’s dinner plate. Challenge each guest to privately read the silly phrase on the card, and then they must attempt to repeat what it says at some point throughout the course of the meal. Clearly you don’t want to write anything offensive, but the stranger and funnier, the better. This will make for great conversation, and keep a smile on everyone’s face. Another fun game to offer your guests as post dinner entertainment is a hysterical card game called Apples to Apples. It’s also nice to have some board games or card games on hand if children are present.
