The Annual Duck & Wine festival, organized by the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation, has grown into a wildly anticipated Outer Banks event, with tickets sold-out months in advance. This year, the Red Sky Cafe team took home the coveted People’s Choice Award with our unique “NC DUCK” Eastern NC duck with fried baby collard & turnips with a rhubarb marmalade (above), which we paired with a tangy Childress Sangiovese. Red Sky Café would like to thank everyone who helped Isabela Rainey with their involvement in the charity dinner. Several Outer Banks Restaurants, including Dirty Dicks, got together to help with this great cause. Thank you’s go out to all of our employees who donated their time to help with the dinner, especially the all star chefs who made the incredible food. Also, thanks for the video go to Market and Convert, our company for web site optimization.
This event really brought the whole community together, which is no surprise to all of us who know the Outer Banks. We had plenty of help setting up and keeping the evening running smoothly, and we had plenty of help from our great customers who ordered meals and donated money.
In all, more than $2500 dollars was raised for Isabela Rainey. If you haven’t seen the recent post, let me tell you a little about Isabela’s situation. Isabela recently underwent brain surgery to correct an Arterial Venous Malformation (AVM). This required a month long drug induced coma for any chance of recovery to normal life. We are happy to say that Isabela is doing well.
Unfortunately, the medical costs and the disruption of daily life have placed an immense burden on Isabela’s family. Cindy heard Isabela’s story and brought it to Chef Wes’ attention, and this is how the Isabela Rainey Charity Dinner came into being.
The money raised is a big help to Isabela and her family, but is just a small step towards getting everything back on track. Please help out and make a donation via the Outer Banks Relief Foundation. Your donation is a tax deduction and 100% of all donations go directly to the family.
Make checks payable to OBX Relief Foundation with Isabela Rainey on the memo. Please drop off at The Foundation office Inc. PO Box 545 Nags Head, North Carolina 27959, or any Gateway Bank.
I hope everyone’s season was as good as or better than their expectations.
Time to take a breath, and reflect on why we were drawn to this majestic beautiful part of the world in the first place
Time to reintroduce ourselves to the ocean, sounds, and the tranquil beaches and time to reinvest into a community that thrives and drives in unison.
… As a member of the OBX community, we should feel grateful that our neighbors and friends have an unusual bond through shared experience and common interest, though sometimes “feeling” grateful falls short. When we extend a hand of friendship to our fellows, it reminds us that others do the same for us exactly when we need it.
Gratitude can also be an action.
Red Sky Cafe and staff are asking you the OBX community “restaurateurs, fisherman, Realtors, and professionals of all kinds” to join us on October 12th in an “Action of Gratitude”.
We will be selling tickets for dinner and dessert with the proceeds going to a local family tested by one of life’s biggest trials.
Isabela Rainey had brain surgery to correct an Arterial Venous Malformation (AVM). This required a month long drug induced coma for any chance of recovery to normal life. Miraculously she is on the mend but Gordon, Janet, Fenton and family could use our support. Mounting cost of the miracle of modern medicine and the time sacrificed from employment to meet their needs has added to the frightful ordeal. We are all grateful Isabela is recovering and we are fortunate to have an opportunity to do our small part to ease our friend’s burdens.
Einstein once said, “In the midst of great difficulty lies opportunity.”
Take action, Buy a ticket, Enjoy a great meal, and Be part of the opportunity.
Chef Wes, Cindy, Red Sky Cafe Staff, and Friends.
Tickets are $15 per person. Dine In or Pick Up
Choose from: Prime Rib • Stuffed Chicken • Mahi Mahi • Dessert Included

This past Saturday Chef Wes made a celebrity appearance at the Pumped For Pink 10k charity race. The inaugural race, hosted by Knuckle Up, was run to raise money for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
One highlight of the race was the presence of UFC veteran Junior Assuncao. Junior was in town to pump up the charity event and made a lot of friends on the Outer Banks. What a great way to kick off the inaugural event with a pro athlete.
Christina and Aaron of OBX Massage Therapy were on hand to provide after race massages to participants. Aaron and Christina offered massages by the minute and provided welcome relief to the hard working contestants.
Aaron and Christina own and operate OBX Massage Therapy, and provide a variety of at-home massage packages. They offer Swedish, deep tissue, facials and more. They also feature a range of bridal packages for both grooms and brides.
The Pumped For Pink 10k raised a lot of money for the fight against breast cancer and the runners had a load of fun. Knuckle Up would like to thank all of the contestants and remind everyone to set aside some time for next year’s race.
Chef Wes made a donation for this great cause and provided gift certificates for the runners. Race directors Matt Costa and Reverend Jay Bowman also prevailed upon Chef Wes to certify the after race refreshments.
