Video Highlights of 2010 Outer Banks Wedding Association EXPO

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Check out the most popular booth at the 2010 Outer Banks Wedding EXPO – Red Sky Cafe!

With a record-breaking ticket sale, 2010 was the biggest OBX Wedding EXPO to date, and what a blast it was!

Over 550 brides-to-be (and their entourages, of course) came to meet with the top 130 vendors on the beach – from wedding caterers to photographers to frozen drink machines’ providers.

Our booth stayed crazy busy throughout the entire show – Brides-to-be came to us to get their questions answered by Chef Wes, his wife Cindy, and catering manager Eric Kallestead. While they chatted, Grooms-to-be (mostly) enjoyed our famous Shrimp & Grits and Cindy’s popular dessert shooters.

Just so you have an idea of how heavy was the traffic on our booth:

  • Over 500 dessert cups consumed (that’s almost 1 cup for EVERY person on the show!)
  • 3 Hotel Pans full of Shrimp & Grits (That’s a little over 20 Quarts!)
  • Well over 400 of our 2010 wedding catering package

It was a great show indeed!

If you were there and came to our booth, it was a pleasure meeting you; if you didnt, well, we are waiting for you at our restaurant in Duck!

Videos Of Outer Banks Wedding Expo 2010 Rentals Tour

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

The Outer Banks Wedding Association 2010 EXPO was the biggest expo so far – and Red Sky was the only Caterer present in multiple houses to help brides and grooms-to-be have a small taste of the beach and enjoy their tour even more.

We had detailed directions and address on our post about the obx wedding expo tour – and we were surprised to see several of our blog readers coming to check out the houses and taste a little of our food.

One of the biggest attractions was the Grand Ritz Palm luxury rental in Duck, where Chef Jamie was preparing fresh Sushi while his wife carved beautiful fresh fruit sculptures. The Red Sky Cafe catered weddings at the Grand Ritz for 200+ guests.

Can You Save Money & Have A Tasteful Wedding Reception In The Outer Banks?

Bridesmaids

We’ve all been scared by the media about the recessive economy and now we see a major trend in trying to save money on everything, everywhere, at all time. Apparently, even the outer banks wedding industry is experiencing its ups and downs.

Dont get us wrong – we’re very thankful for a generous 09 wedding catering season, and 2010 is looking even better – but most of our clients are looking to make the most of their money, and that’s why we’ve come up with this list of tips to save money and still get the most of your Outer Banks wedding:

Choose the Right Reception Venue

The main factor that is going to determine the overall cost of the wedding reception is the venue that you choose.

While you can find gorgeous wedding venues like the Whalehead Club at a reasonable price, there are alternatives that can still give you the scenery without the big price tags.

Rent a beautiful oceanfront vacation property and have either the reception or the entire party there. You may even have both there if you can get some help to move things around from one party to the other.

Save big bucks on your wedding cake!

Save Money On The Wedding Cake

Here’s a big tip that can reduce your wedding cake cost almost in half – forget the fondant. Go for butter cream or whipped icing – they’re much cheaper, look just as nice, and even taste better (personal opinion).

Hire A Wedding Planner

Most people do not even think twice about using a wedding planner because it sounds very expensive to do so. In reality, a wedding planner will help you find the most affordable prices out there.

When brides ask us for recommendations, we only refer them to local planners that have built a great reputation and a powerful network. Since they are familiar with most of the wedding people on the Outer Banks, they usually get deals that you would never be able to find.

A wedding planner may seem like just an extra wedding expense, but they more than pay for themselves in the amount of stress that they take off of you and your family.

Like these tips?

Wedding Tasting At Red Sky – Outer Banks’ Top Catering Services!

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Yesterday the Red Sky Cafe hosted a wedding tasting for Jen & John, the “reality Bride & Groom”.

They’re recording every step of their wedding planning for an online documentary, and they chose the Red Sky to cater for their wedding.

To accommodate everybody’s request, Chef Wes prepared a huge tasting platter – as you can see on the video, the bride and groom did not expect such an abundant tasting.

According to Chef Wes Stepp, tastings usually have an average of 7-8 dishes, and he doesnt skim on the servings. His wife Cindy says that many times the couple is so busy during the wedding that if they dont enjoy the food during the tasting they may not eat it at all!

We wish Jen & John the best, and look forward to their wedding next year.

If you’d like to have the Red Sky catering for your Outer Banks wedding, sign up on HERE. Our Catering Manager Eric Kallestead will get in touch with you promptly.
