A Valentines Dinner To Remember – Red Sky Cafe in Duck

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Over 120 dinners came to taste Chef Wes Stepp’s scrumptious creations in the coolest valentines dinner in the Outer Banks. And what a dinner it was!

Watch below for a quick glimpse of all the fun:

rss/facebook readers watch the video here.

Valentines DInner at the Red Sky Cafe

Valentines enjoyed several special treats from the Red Sky

The restaurant was completely booked by 6:30pm.

Guests arrived constantly and many just stood by the bar and watched the Chefs through the open kitchen. It was a real sight.

The Red Sky was serving its regular dinner menu, along with the special sample platters, served on a 3 1/2 ft long mirror (as you’ll see on the video). Each platter had at least 15 different Tapas (small entrees) ranging from Filet Mignon to Scallops to Quail.

Throughout the dining room, Wows and Oh My Goshs were heard constantly, followed by delighted champagne toasts.

If you had to miss it, mark your calendar for next year – you wont regret it!

The Surprising Red Sky Cafe Valentine’s Dinner

valentines dinner in the outer banks with Red Sky cafe

Valentines in the Outer Banks - Red Sky Cafe!

Chef Wes Stepp presents “Looking At You Valentines For Two” at the Red Sky Cafe in Duck, NC.

Let me explain how this cool (and unusual) dinner will take place:

1 – There’s No Menu

Couples will pick from Protein Groups below:

Seafood, Beef, Chicken, or Pork

They can choose one, two, three, or have all four groups on their menu.

Chef Wes will then prepare a delicious Tapas selection of several fresh proteins, including shrimp, scallops, oysters, filet mignon, chicken breast, tenderloin, pork belly, etc…

2 – There are no dishes

This Valentines dinner is called “Looking at You” because Chef Wes is abolishing all dishware and substituting it with his unique mirror platters.

mirror platters from Red Sky Cafe

Valentines dinner will be served on mirror platters!

Your entire menu selection will come on a beautiful mirror platter, one of the signature presentations of the Red Sky Cafe.

So, in a way, your dinner will be “looking at you” ;)

3 – Champagne for Everybody

Each couple (over 21) receives a flute of Champagne to accompany their dinner, courtesy of the Red Sky Cafe.

The bubbles mark the beginning of a very special night, that can be complimented by one of the special Champagne bottles on the menu marked for a special Valentine’s discount.

Ask your server for a complete selection!

4 – It’s Super Affordable!

For only $45 per couple, this dinner is the best Valentine’s gift we can give your wallet!

Seriously – movies for 2 + popcorn + sodas cost $35! (and you dont get to taste Chef Wes’ creations or Champagne!)

Reserve your table now – call 252-261-8646!

We look forward to mesmerizing you this weekend!

Valentine’s Dinner In The Outer Banks – Seared Scallops

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Chef Wes Stepp prepares his wife Cindy a deliciously simple Valentine’s dinner appetizer with beautiful ocean Scallops in a cucumber vinagrette.

RSS Readers, watch the video here

In keeping with his goal of helping people eat healthier foods, chef Wes prepares another healthy Outer Banks seafood recipe, this time extra simple – to make life easier for the guys trying to impress their Valentine’s dates this coming weekend.

The scallops are seasoned with Cajun seasoning and then seared on a really hot pan with olive oil for 2-3 minutes on one side, until a thick crust appears, then reduce the temperature to medium and flips the scallops, which will finish in the oven for about 3 more minutes.

For the vinagrette, Chef uses diced cucumber, cilantro, red and yellow pepper, rice wine vinegar, honey, and a touch of scallions. On top of the scallops, to add a summer taste, he adds a spoon of fresh basil pesto, which makes them a bit salty, just enough to counter their natural sweetness.

Moon Turns Blue Just For Our Outer Banks New Year’s Eve Dinner!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
blue moon new year eve outer banks

With clear skies, you'll be seeing this moon tonight in the Outer Banks from the Red Sky Cafe!

A full moon, the second one this month, comes in blue specially for our New Year’s Eve dinner in the Outer Banks. Okay – maybe the moon didnt just turn blue for our dinner (in actuality, every second full moon in the same month is called a blue moon).

According to Brazilian traditions, when a person wears blue during Reveillon (midnight on Dec 31st), it’s supposed to attract health & wellness.

How appropriate is that – we’re serving the most delicious food, prepared from scratch with fresh local ingredients (nothing is ever frozen at the Red Sky), and the moon decides to turn blue to bless our meal with a vouch of wellness for our diners! It’s a special touch on a night you cannot miss.

All jokes aside, 2009 was an exceptional year for the Red Sky and you are a major part of it. This year, despite the shaky economy, we saw an increase in restaurant and catering numbers, and that could not have happened without your support.

Thanks for dining with us, thanks for recommending our restaurant to your friends, thanks for reading (and commenting on) this blog, thanks for being part of our community on Facebook, and thanks for watching our videos!

We’re working on a ton of even cooler stuff for you on 2010 – we’ve got more videos, more cooking tips, and the best advice for your catering in the Outer Banks. Stay tuned!

Happy New Year!!

P.S – Here’s the truth about the blue moon:
